Shibori leather is hand dyed and unique in its own right, unique designs and colour matching is also available.

From the smallest dwelling to multi store developments, Shibori thrive in the direct collaboration with designers and developers in order to create truly bespoke masterpieces.

The ancient Japanese art of shibori is a resist-dyeing technique commonly used to decorate silk or cotton found on Obi and Kimonos.  Shibori textiles have put their own spin on the technique applying it to different materials such as upholstery fabrics, wood, wallpaper and leather. All Shibori leather stays with the tradition and is hand-dyed using Shibori textile’s own methods.

"Leather is a unique material as it is not like fabric with a warp and a weft but rather has the quality of skin and each individual skin grabs the dye giving more definition and room for spontaneous design."

On occasion, Shibori offers dyed offcuts depending on what is in stock.

PLEASE NOTE: There is much more risk of colour variation when selecting offcuts as each piece may be from a different leather batch or dye lot.

Shibori select top-quality Italian leather that is sourced from ethical suppliers. Some leathers may have natural scratch marks that are due to encounters the animal may have experienced; each is natural adding to the beauty of leather and does not affect the integrity of the material in any way. We do not use leather than has branding marks and will source the appropriate piece to best suit the sizes required.

Shibori take great pride in dyeing leather and offer customised designs and colours within the realm of hand dyeing. Colours can be made based on a Pantone match.

Leather dye is made to penetrate into pretreated leather surface and may yield
colour when rubbed due to the levels absorbed in the binding restrictions.
This leather has been commercially sealed however underside should be treated
with caution as despite several washes fine dye particles can be caught in the
suede and rub off if put in contact with other materials.
